Summary:

Thanksgiving morning the Beth Torah Men’s Club organized and administered the delivery of hot food baskets to the homebound, elderly, and Holocaust survivors in the community.  In order for this program to succeed we needed the help of volunteers to assist in delivering the food baskets.  We were able to get volunteers from the Men’s Club, Sisterhood, religious and day school students and their parents.  We advertised in the temple journal, sent home flyers with children, emailed members and mailed notices.

Jewish Community Services assisted us in providing the names of those people who would be receiving the food baskets.  In addition the Men’s Club purchased the food from Kosher Gourmet which is a division of Jewish Community Services.  With the help of Jewish Community Services we were also able to offer community service credit for those who needed it.

This program was beneficial to the recipients as they received not only food but companionship from the volunteers who visited with them.  The volunteers also benefited because they felt that they were doing a great mitzvah.
