2011 Sacred Scrolls Showcase

Club Name(s):

To shine a spotlight on the FJMC Sefer Haftarah during its visit to Charlotte, the Men’s Club joined together with the religious school and hosted a Sacred Scrolls Showcase. Ten different activity stations included Torah trope, tefillin, Sefer Haftarah, find G-d’s name in the Torah, Megillat Esther, Rescued Holocaust Scroll, Torah Crowns and Breastplates, and more. More than 75 students were very enthusiastically engaged in the activities and really enjoyed taking the mystery out of the scrolls “behind the curtain.” The displays were also opened to the entire congregation and we included an Italian dinner which was attended by 55 people. We also brought the Sefer Haftarah to Hebrew High where it was also enthusiastically enjoyed.

We have requested another visit next year from the FJMC Sefer Haftarah, and our plan is to expand the event for the community. One group can work on activities, one on food, one on publicity, and one on donations or prizes. We give out candy to re-inforce the concept that learning Torah is sweet!
