What's an FJMC Leadership Consultant?

FJMC Leadership Consultants respond to specific requests of to work on specific programs and projects in regions other than your own. The rest of the time, we ask them to assess what is going on with the clubs in their own regions and work with their region's leadership (many FJMC Consultants are part of their region's leadership teams) to determine specific training programs and help develop program content for regional retreats, meetings, etc. FJMC Leadership Consultants are given a comprehensive view of all FJMC goals for clubs and officers, programs, philosophy, etc. FJMC Leadership Consultants are selected to be a consultant because they are smart, committed to FJMC and full of leadership capability - which includes the ability to help others succeed in leadership and building organizations, such as your region and its clubs. Here are some typical duties:

  1. Travel on assignment to other regions for retreats, training workshops and programs. When assigned one of these gigs, they work with regional leadership to plan the program, and are expected to be a significant presenter. For a weekend retreat, the Consultant will be expected to have a minimum of 3 hours of time during the event to present FJMC information on the topics chosen by the regional leadership and the Consultant. For a one-day training session, the Consultant will have at least 2 to 3 hours of program time, and for a morning workshop, the Consultant will have at least 1 hour of program time. The conditions have been established because both the Consultants time and the FJMC's resources are extremely valuable. It would not be fair to the Consultant and the FJMC to drive or fly for anything less.
  2. Consultants develop and promote training and education programs for regional leaders both for their effectiveness as region officers and directors and for their effectiveness in providing better club servicing. This can be done at a morning or day-long workshop or as part of a regional board meeting. Consultants work with the regional president and executive officers to determine both timing and content.
  3. Develop and promote training and education for club leaders through morning or day-long workshops sponsored by the region.
  4. Develop and promote training and education programs for individual clubs. The Consultants should work closely with the regional leadership responsible for a specific club and with the club's leadership to fine-tune both the content of the program and the way in which material will be presented. The key is to be a support organization - not a know-it-all, lending positive support to a club within the context of its needs and club/synagogue culture.
