Our Brotherhood did not shut down because of the COVID-19 pandemic. We found ways to continue our activities. We even found a way to meet outside.

The NER virtual retreat, the VeTreat 2020 was held on June 13-14, and over 100 men attended.  It featured Bill Novak, a local author and co-author of the Big Book of Jewish Humor and Rabbi Jeffrey Summit, who gave a multi-media lecture about the Abayudaya Jews of Eastern Uganda and their music.  There was no fee to attend but voluntary contributions could be made to the Tikvah Program at Camp Ramah for special needs kids, the Abayudaya coronavirus lockdown fund of FJMC, and/or sponsorships to defray the cost of speakers.

In a time when social distancing is the reality, the Middle Atlantic Region found a way to offer friendship, comfort, and connection to its members.

Lighting an FJMC Yellow Candle is an important way of commemorating Tisha B'av.  Many clubs, who were not able to distribute their candles in the spring due to COVID, have done so for Tisha B'av.
