2007 Shabbat Service at U.S. Military Academy (pw=fjmc)

Club Name(s):

The Men’s Club and other congregants of New City Jewish Center joined the Jewish cadets of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point for a Friday night Shabbat service.  The Men’s Club also sponsored an Oneg and light dinner for the cadets and other attendees.  The club had collected funds from congregants to help defray the cost of the dinner.  There was a surplus in funds from which the club subsequently donated a set of Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs tefillin as the Chapel’s first tefillin for the use of the Jewish cadets.  New City Jewish Center has now held the event for two years and plans on doing so annually.  The NCJC Men’s Club’s involvement arose from a Sunday morning Men’s Club breakfast program.  The Jewish Chaplain at West Point, Rabbi Carlos Huerta, had made a presentation at the breakfast regarding his tour of duty in Iraq.
